Cenro told to implement solid waste management properly

THE Davao City Mayor's Office (CMO) asked personnel of the City Environment and Natural Resources (Cenro) to ensure the proper implementation of the city's programs on solid waste management.

Based on a report of the City Information Office (CIO), lawyer Raul Nadela, chief of staff of the mayor, reminded personnel to do their task accordingly during a one-day assembly and reorientation seminar last week.

"Let us not forget that our task is to primarily always keep the city clean," he said.

Nadela also underscored the need for close coordination between Cenro personnel and officials of barangays to ensure the effective collection of garbage from designated areas. He also reminded the public on their role to make sure that their communities are clean.

The same CIO report read that the reorientation was ordered by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and was conducted by the Office of the Human Resource and Management Office after the mayor received number of complaints about uncollected garbage in certain areas in the city.

Duterte-Carpio, in her State of the City Address, noted that the volume of garbage being generated by the Dabawenyos has been increasing with the rapid growth of the city.

In her Byaheng DO30 program, the mayor has identified solid waste management as one of the priorities of her administration.

The City Government intends to extend the lifespan of the current dumpsite in Barangay New Carmen to two or three more years.

According to Duterte-Carpio, the City Government is working with the Japanese Government for the construction of a fully-mechanized materials recovery facility and solid waste management complex.
