Homeowner loses close to P1M worth of valuables to burglars

CLOSE to P1 million worth of jewelry and valuables were taken from a house in a subdivision in Sitio Kalubihan in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City last Thursday.

Michelle Norman, 35, told police investigators that she slept in her children’s room in Carmel Drive Subdivision last Wednesday night.

When she went to her room the following morning about 6 a.m., her room was already in disarray.

Norman said the sliding door that leads to a balcony was forced opened, although she locked the night before.

She later realized that her jewelry box and other valuables worth about P916,000 were missing.

PO1 Alcindor Suico, desk officer of the Cebu City Police Station 8 in Talamban, told Sun.Star Cebu that the culprits have not been identified yet.

After Norman reported the incident to them, Suico said a team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) went to check if the doors and other parts of the room have the suspects’ fingerprints.

The examination has not yielded helpful results yet, said Suico.

Norman said the jewelry box contained at least P800,000 worth of jewelry, including a bracelet, a diamond ring, a jade ring, a wedding ring, a necklace with a diamond pendant, another pendant and a gold necklace.

A watch worth P50,000, another watch with stones worth P10,000 and a Macbook Air worth P56,000 were also missing.

Suico assured that a follow-up investigation is ongoing to identify the culprits.
