Zanjoe Marudo nominated for International Emmy award

ACTOR Zanjoe Marudo has been nominated for the top acting trophy at the prestigious 45th International Emmy Awards.

The Kapamilya star earned the nod for his portrayal in the "Anino" episode of the longest-running drama anthology in Asia, "Maalaala Mo Kaya" (MMK).

In the said episode, Marudo played the role of Victor, a family man who welcomed strangers who eventually took advantage of his kindness. His character got depressed and was later on diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Marudo will compete in the Best Performance by an Actor category together with Julio Andrade ("Um Contra Todos) from Brazil, Ked Merad ("Baron Noir") from France, and seasoned actor/director Kenneth Branagh in "Wallander" from the United Kingdom.

Aside from Marudo, ABS-CBN's primetime newscast "TV Patrol's" special report "Super Typhoon Lawin's Trail of Damage" was nominated for the News category.

This is not the first time a Filipino actor was nominated in the International Emmy Awards. Just last year, actress Jodi Sta. Maria went head-to-head with Christiane Paul, Grazi Massafera and Judi Dench in the Best Actress category.

Paul, who top-billed "Unterm Radar" (Under the Radar), took home the trophy.

Local hit series "Bridges of Love," starring Jericho Rosales and Maja Salvador, was also nominated for the Best Telenovela in 2016.

The winners of the 45th International Emmy Awards will be announced on November 20 in New York City, USA. (SunStar Philippines)
