DJ slay suspect now behind bars

REYNANTE Mambiar-Mendador, the person behind the robbery and killing of disc jockey Marie Alexi "Maxi" Bolongaita, was transferred to the Cebu City Jail on Thursday night, September 28.

Superintendent Ryan Devaras, the Investigation and Detection Management Branch chief, said Mendador's relatives paid the hospital bills.

Devaras further said that the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor also changed the original complaint of robbery with homicide to two cases of murder and robbery.

The murder and robbery cases were elevated to court by the prosecutor's office.

The case stemmed from complaints filed by the police’s Crime Against Persons Unit against Mendador.

The police attached the affidavits of Bolongaita’s father, Alex, and another witness in filing the charges the respondent.

A witness executed his affidavit stating that he saw Mendador clinging from the second floor of the victim’s house past3 a.m. on Sept. 21.

He clearly saw the suspect’s face because of the light from the electric post.

The suspect quickly jumped from the terrace to his parked motorcycle outside of the house.

When the witness shouted that a thief just barged into the house, Mendador threatened to shoot him if he would follow him.

The witness also went with the police to identify the suspect while being treated in the hospital.

Mendador, who was recently released from the Cebu City Jail, was the suspect in several burglaries in Barangays Apas, Lahug and Busay.

Mendador was also caught last Aug. 30 in Barangay Lorega by tanods for having two small sachets of shabu in his possession.

The accused failed to submit his counter-affidavit during the preliminary investigation, prompting prosecutors to resolve the complaint based on the evidence presented by the complainant.

“Since there is evidence that respondent caused the death of one Marie Alexi Bolongaita, (respondent) should also be charged with murder and robbery,” the charge sheet read.

Mendador broke into the room of Bolongaita in Barangay Busay, Cebu City to rob her.

Bolongaita fought him off. Mendador, who suffered gunshot and stab wounds, killed Bolongaita.

The body of the disc jockey was found by her broadcaster-father, Alex, on September 21.

Bolongaita's remains were cremated on Wednesday afternoon, September 27. (GMD, KAL)
