New x-ray machine at Davao airport

AN ADDITIONAL x-ray machine will be delivered to Francisco Bangoy International Airport, Davao City next week to intensify security measures against terrorism.

In a press conference, Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Davao Region district collector chief lawyer Erastus Sandino Austria said he requested the machine last April to boost the capability of the Bureau in monitoring the flow of goods at the airport.

Austria said Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio sent him a letter last September 11, 2017, urging him to be "hyper-vigilant" in the bureau's operation as a means to intensify security against terrorism.

The arrival of the additional x-ray machine next week, he said, is timely to the mandate of the mayor.

"Our three existing x-ray machines are not enough to process the goods that need to be inspected," Austria said, adding that the new x-ray machine will also assure that the monitoring personnel in the airport will strictly do their job in monitoring and inspecting cargo goods and hand luggage of passengers.
