DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) recorded a total of 1,056 persons arrested due to illegal gambling activities and confiscated a total of P257,586 cash during operations conducted from February to September this year.
Based on the data presented to the media on Wednesday, September 27, by DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum, all the DCPO police stations launched a total of 576 operations against illegal gambling in the city.
Most of those arrested came from Marilog Police Station (PS) with 630 personalities, followed by Sta. Ana PS with 102; 72 in San Pedro PS and Bunawan PS; 61 in Talomo PS; 40 in Sasa PS; 22 in Paquibato PS; 21 in Toril PS; 16 in Calinan PS; 15 in Baguio PS; four in Buhangin PS; and one in Tugbok PS. The remaining were from other police stations.
Data shows that Last Two remains to be the top form of illegal gambling with 382.
Other illegal games that have the highest arrested individuals: illegal card games with 59, hantak 51, electronic gambling games 46, mahjong 26; illegal bingo 10; and cockfight nine.
Last July, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald dela Rosa ordered all regional directors to intensify operations against illegal gambling with an ultimatum that if they could not stop illegal gambling within 15 days in their area, they will be relieved from their post or transferred.
His directive was issued after Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office general manager Alexander Balutan expressed disappointment over poor performance of the police officers in putting an end to illegal gambling as manifested by the continuous proliferation of "jueteng" that adversely affect the monthly revenue collection of the Small Town Lottery.
