EIGTH-seed Author Solutions Inc. (ASI) Hardbacks played a tough game for three quarters and used its 10-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter as leverage to stay afloat when top seed Tech Mahindra Mighties came clawing back. They scored a heart-thumping 68-65 win at the start of the playoffs round of the Evo League in the 2017 CSCC E-League held in the City Sports Club-Cebu gym last Saturday.
After leading for one point, 12-11 in the opening quarter, ASI came roaring in the second to put up an 11-point wall, 36-25, at the close of the opening quarter.
Tech Mahindra pushed hard in the second half, but ASI managed to keep its composure until the final buzzer to force a do-or-die game next week.
Francis Manzanares led all scorers with 19 points as JP Diputado added 10 for ASI, while Robert Rebaño and King Olbes scored 17 points each for Tech Mahindra.
The Optum Knights also forced a do-or-die match after beating the second seed The Results Company Spartans, 72-70, in the other Evo League playoffs match.
The Knights came to life in the second quarter following a 29-18 binge and engaged the Spartans in an exchange of baskets in the next two quarters to win the match.
Mark Daniel Caumeran fired 23 points. Joman Garduque added 22 and Vincent Armamento had 10 points for Optum, while Jade Seno made 19 points, Albien Cadungog contributed 15 and John Cadampog scattered 11 points for The Results Company.
Meanwhile, Elite Classic top seed Teleperformance All-Stars and no.2 seed Accenture Sharks advanced to the semifinal round after beating their rivals.
Teleperformance opened the game with a 30-12 blast in the opening quarter and never looked back for an 87-55 win against the No. 8 seed Telstar Boomerangs. Accenture virtually wrapped the game following a 29-point lead after three quarters before allowing Wipro Tigers to taper the margin down to 77-61 for the final tally. (RCM)
