2 wounded in a hold-up attempt in Zamboanga City

TWO people, including a soldier, were wounded in a hold-up attempt in Zamboanga City, the police reported Sunday, October 1.

The Zamboanga City Police Office reported that the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday in the village of San Jose Gusu.

The police identified the victims as Hernand Oraniola, 35, and Seaman First Class Jonard Enolpe, a member of the Philippine Navy.

The police said the main target of the suspects was Oraniola, who was reportedly bringing large sum of money at the time of the incident, while Enolpe was hit by a stray bullet.

Investigation showed that Oraniola was on his way home to Ayala village when shot by one of the two men riding on a motorcycle in the vicinity of a chapel in San Jose Gusu.

However, the police said the suspects rattled and failed to take the money Oraniola was carrying as they sped off when they sensed Enolpe is a military personnel.

The police said investigation is ongoing in a bid to identify and arrest the suspects. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
