2 ‘hold-uppers’ nabbed in drug raid

TWO suspected members of Alex “Rondoy” Barredo robbery group were arrested in a drug bust at Purok Pilit, Barangay 6 in Bacolod City Friday night.

Collared were Teddy Marc Carmona, 27, subject of the drug raid, and Jomar Vargas, 34.

Also arrested was Carmona’s 62-year old father.

Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias Jr., head of Police Station 2, said they have monitored Carmona’s illegal activities for two weeks already.

Carmona and Vargas sold shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to a police agent for P500.

Carmona’s father sensed the presence of operatives prompting him to shout that alarmed Barredo and his unidentified companion.

A chase and exchange of gunshots followed, but both armed robbers managed to escape. Nobody was harmed.

Villarias said they did not know that Barredo and his companion were also holding a “pot session” inside the house.

Recovered from the house were five sachets of suspected shabu worth P10,000, a .38 caliber revolver, and five ammunition left by Barredo during his escape.

Also seized were the P500 marked money, P70 cash, two suspected stolen motorcycles, helmet, face masks, bonnet, and gloves.

Villarias said they are continuously validating the information given to them by one of the arrested members of the group to locate Barredo's whereabouts.

“We tried to check their hideouts but we failed to intercept him,” he added.

Villarias said three victims already positively identified Carmona and Vargas.

Meanwhile, charges for violation of Section 5 (sale of dangerous drugs) and Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Carmona and Vargas while the elder Carmona will face charges for violation of Section 26 for conspiracy.

Charges for violation of RA 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act will be filed against Barredo.

Last week, eight robbery hold-up cases happened in a span of two days.

On Thursday, three men were also arrested in a hot pursuit operation in Barangay Mansilingan after they robbed three persons in separate incidents in the city on the same day.

2 snatchers nabbed

Meanwhile, two notorious snatchers were arrested in the city Sunday afternoon after they robbed two persons in separate incidents on the same day.

Arrested were Mark Benedict Buenaobra, 20, of Metro Manila, and Joebert Alisem, 27, of Purok Kingfisher-A, Barangay 16.

Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of BCPO, said Buenaobra victimized a woman while walking in Barangay 13 while Alisin robbed a man on Gatuslao-Araneta Street.

They were cornered by policemen in plainclothes.

Wanky urged complainants to cooperate with the police in filing of cases to fully address theft and robbery incidents.

“Enforcement is just part of the solution. We also need the help of the public,” he said.

Moreover, police also arrested Ruel Mansueto, 20, of Barangay 1, Victorias City after he sold a laptop stolen from a policeman in Bacolod City.

Buenaobra and Mansueto admitted the crime but the latter said he did not participate in stealing the laptop while Alisem denied the allegations against him.

Buenaobra and Alisem are detained at Police Station 1 while Mansueto will be turned over to Victorias City Police Station.
