600 benefit from smelting plant's medical mission

SAN SIMON -- Residents of Barangay Sta. Monica here on Sunday, October 1, benefitted from the grand medical and dental mission conducted by Real Steel Corporation (RSC).

At least 600 participants, mostly elderly, enjoyed the free medical assistance offered by the private company as part of its corporate social responsibility.

RSC Pollution Control Officer Cyril Hilario said that the company has been conducting corporate social responsibility programs in Barangays Sta. Monica and San Isidro here as a sign of gratitude to its host communities.

"Ang gusto ng boss namin ay makatulong parati sa mga tao sa paligid ng planta kaya every month may mga iba-ibang activities siya na ino-organize," she said.

For this month, Hilario said Sta. Monica is the chosen beneficiary as some of its employees came from this barangay.

During the activity, Hilario said that residents were able to have medical check-ups and get free prescribed medicines, as well as tooth extraction.

Meanwhile, village officials of Sta. Monica expressed their gratitude to RSC through a barangay resolution.

Barangay Sta. Monica Chief Remigio Cariño said that Resolution No. 9-17 recognizes the generosity of RSC to the village as shown on the medical, social and infrastructure projects they shared with the residents.

He cited the feeding programs to senior citizens, distribution of school supplies and infrastructure projects donated by the RSC to Barangay Sta. Monica.

"The resolution is a sign of appreciation to Real Steel Corporation for demonstrating remarkable corporate social responsibility to the constituents of Barangay Sta. Monica with its great dedication and outstanding efforts to support and complement the significant barangay programs through social and medical services, infrastructure projects and other community development initiatives," Cariño said.
