New Kadayawan Village guidelines being crafted

THE 11 tribes together with the Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) are crafting guidelines for the re-opening of the Kadayawan village.

Kadayawan Village in-charge William Banzali, in an interview with SunStar Davao, on Monday, October 2, said that they are setting up operational guidelines for external policy based on the culture of each tribe.

"Wala pa po tayong official opening ceremony kasi titingnan muna ano yung policy na gagawin nila yun ang mahalaga. Marami pang kailangan ayusin, nakakahiya naman sa mga bisita na i-open na may kakulangan," he said.

Banzali said that the city government will hire tribe representatives who are knowledgeable of their culture as contractual workers.

He added that orientation was held for tribe representatives last Friday, September 29.

Banzali said that crafting of operational guidelines may take time since they will discuss profit-sharing of collection fee. The tribal village in-charge will also undergo training with the Department of Tourism (DOT).

These skills include basic tour guiding, basic accounting skills management and tourism reception training.

Banzali added that the city mayor is ready to support the plans of the tribes.

"Nakahanda yung city mayor kung anong gagawin nila muna, walang impositions, consultations muna ang gagawin," he said, adding that they will not impose entrance fee but the visitors may buy products produced by tribe since it comes as a form of business, and that is where the guidelines will focus on.

Banzali said no date was set yet on the relaunching of the village but it may be held during the celebration of Indigenous Peoples Month this month.
