Escapee-detainee surrenders to the police

ONE of the three detainees (not two as earlier reported) who bolted from detention have surrendered to the authorities hours after they escaped, the police reported on Monday, October 2.

The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) identified the escapee who surrendered as Edric Sapayla, a resident of the village of Ayala, Zamboanga City.

The ZCPO reported that Sapayla surrendered to the Police Station 9 on Sunday night, October 1, several hours after he and two other detainees escaped.

Sapayla decided to surrender after his family convinced him to yield to the police authorities.

Sapayla is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Still at large are Eddie Salazar and Ernard Raveche, who are facing drug and homicide charges, respectively.

The police reported that they escaped around 1 a.m. Sunday at the detention cell of the Police Station 9 headquarters.

They escaped by destroying the steel bar grills that serve as ventilation of the detention cell.

Manhunt continues to recapture the two detainees who are still at large. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
