LGUs reminded to comply with solid waste management

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Western Visayas reminded local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental to comply with Republic Act 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Law.

DENR-Western Visayas Director Jim Sampulna issued the call Monday, October 2, during the turnover of responsibility and accountability of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office-Negros Occidental from DENR-Negros Island Region to Western Visayas at the Penro compound in Bacolod City.

“We would like to remind the mayors about environmental protection and conservation and most of all about the solid waste management and waste segregation,” Sampulna said.

He said the DENR-Western Visayas is ready to provide trainings on waste segregation and solid waste management.

“We also would like to remind the LGUs that appropriate penalties await them for non-compliance,” Sampulna said.
