4 firms eye to help in rehab of Agus-Pulangi

DIFFERENT firms had expressed interest to assist the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (Psalm) in decided on how to rehabilitate the Agus-Pulangi Hydropower Complex (APHC).

According to Energy undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella, in line with the privatization of the APHC, the purpose of the rehabilitation is to make plants more efficient especially for facilities that may need repair.

"Whether we privatize Agus-Pulangi or not, it's good to conduct the rehab," Fuentebella said.

He mentioned four firms that are interested to partner with Psalm in the rehabilitation of the powerplants. One the firms is the International Financing Corporation (IFC) while the three other firms include a World Bank-connected firm, a Japanese firm, and a Norweigan firm.

Fuentebella also clarified that there has yet to be a timeline provided for the start of the rehabilitation.

"The best time for the rehab of Angus Pulangi powerplants is when you have a scenario that it is not much used. That is the scenario where there is more supply," Fuentebella said.

In a data provided by Energy assistant secretary Redentor Delola, Agus hydropower complex had a total installed capacity of 727 megawatts and 462 mw available capacity. Pulangi hydropower complex, on the other hand, has 255 megawatt (MW) installed capacity and 224 MW available capacity.
