Flame It to distribute school supplies

THE organizers of the Flame It Run! will be giving school supplies to some 50 children under the grassroots running program of Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) in July.

The Flame It Run! was the first road race for the children under the CCSC grassroots program for running. The grassroots students from Barangay Guba, Cebu City handled by coach John Philip Dueñas and the two-time Milo Marathon queen Mary Joy Tabal were one of the beneficiaries of the running event.

As the beneficiary, around 60 grassroots kids were given free slots in the 3-kilometer race, as part of their culminating activity and coaches evaluation. The help did not end on race day, as the organizers will be helping out on their own little way by giving school supplies to the students.

Flame It! Burgers chief operating officer Ella Villacin told Sun.Star Cebu that in the first week of July they will be distributing the school supplies to those kids who joined the race. She said that around 50 children will be the beneficiaries.

“We will do it this week because I think coach Philip (Dueñas) will be busy one the following weeks on his training for Ironman,” said Villacin.

Meanwhile, Dueñas said that after the Flame It Run!, some race directors in Cebu have reached out to give support through giving free slots to these children during weekend races.

“ I am happy that the children can now join at least two races per month because of the slots given to them.” he said. "Pero ako e schedule ila races para ma equal sila sa apilan basing sa available na slots or races."

After Barangay Guba, the hometown of Tabal, the CCSC grassroots program will look to expand to Barangay Sirao to reach more children, develop their potentials and build a future champions.
