POEA: No deployment ban to Guam yet

THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Friday said there is no deployment ban for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Guam amid the lingering threat of North Korea's missile launch.

Based on POEA Governing Board Resolution 04-2017, the POEA said both returning and newly-hired OFWs will still be allowed to go to Guam.

"No travel restrictions are imposed upon Filipino workers under Crisis Alert Level 1," said the POEA but OFWs bound for and are already in Guam are "advised to take necessary precautions."

The POEA Resolution comes on the heels of the decision of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to raise Crisis Alert Level 1 in Guam last August.

This was after North Korea has issued a threat that it will launch a nuclear missile strike directed at Guam.

Guam is home to 41,944 Filipinos, including OFWs. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
