SLDC diversifies business opportunities

HOMEGROWN developer, Santos Land Development Corporation (SLDC), expands its operations to hospitality and agribusiness industries, cementing its business presence in Davao Region.

SLDC President Antonio Nicolas Domingo told reporters Friday, October 6 at the sidelines of the groundbreaking ceremony of its new projects -- The Ivory Residences Condominium and Obsidian Suites Hotel in Bajada, Davao City -- that the company is geared towards entering new ventures in different industries.

“I saw the progress that has happened and is happening in Davao Region, as president I thought, we can’t be just like this, we need to do more. So I decided to already start expanding, now we are not just limited to subdivisions, we start investing in hotels, vertical projects and agribusiness,” he said.

The new business direction is in time of the company’s 46th anniversary on October 15.

Hospitality

Aligning its business to the local and national government’s tourism roadmap, SLDC launched on Friday, October 6, its twin projects, the Ivory Residences Condominium and Obsidian Suites Hotel within a 4,700 sq. meters area in J.P. Laurel Avenue, Bajada, Davao City.

“This is also one of the 10 priority industries of our City Mayor (Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio), the investments on tourism and business convention centers, and we want to support that,” Maria Ramona T. Cutler, project coordinator (administrative) for the twin projects.

Domingo added that they carefully planned, long and hard, before committing to this almost a billion peso-worth project.

“Hotels, accommodation rooms are the need of the time, we want to be part of the solution of the shortage of rooms in the city,” he said adding that they already consulted with Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCIPC) and the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The twin projects, which are eyed to be finished in three years, will employ around 700 to 1,000 employees for the construction and operations of the condotel.

The Ivory Residences is an 18-storey tower with 330 units of various sizes while Obsidian Suites is a 10-storey business hotel with a roof deck. It will feature some 90 rooms ranging from superior, deluxe, junior and executive, themed suites. It will also house various meeting rooms, function rooms and two restaurants.

SLDC sales and marketing manager Estella Aguilos said, sales performance of the condominium is performing well even before its launching.

“We are in pre-selling now and we already sold 10 percent of the total number of units. We hope to sell all the units by the end of the year,” Aguilos said.

Agribusiness

“We are putting up a 300,000-population laying house in Panabo,” Domingo bared.

He added that beyond poultry, they will also look into venturing to of piggery, feed-milling, another business in agriculture.

He also said that their entry to agribusiness is their answer to the call of the Department of Agriculture to increase food production and provide affordable food to all Filipinos.

Domingo bared that they poured nearly P2-billion worth of investments in the region for this year.

“We will be very aggressive in investing this time, also we are do not only limit our businesses in Davao, we are also investing now in Makilala, North Cotabato, Tagum, Panabo, among others,” he said.

The SLDC township project in Makilala, the Plantacion Residences, will be officially launched on October 10.
