All systems go for 22nd UniGames

IT’S ALL systems go for the staging of the 22nd UniGames on October 22-28 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

A total of 27 colleges and universities have confirmed their participation in the week-long competition.

“There will be few participants this year as a result of the second year implementation of the K to 12 program of the Department of Education, wherein there is no first year college enrollment,” said UniGames president Roger Banzuela.

“The UniGames, as envisioned by its late founder, Br. Rolando R. Dizon, FSC, is to bring together the best and the finest collegiate student-athletes in the country representing their respective schools in the spirit of fair play, goodwill, friendship and peace while continuing to discover and develop potential national athletes through its top quality competitions,” Banzuela added.

Delegates will start arriving from October 19 to 21 in time for Negros Oriental’s Buglasan Festival.

The technical meeting for coaches and technical officials will be held at 9 a.m. on October 22 in Lamberto Macias Sports Center and will be followed by the opening ceremonies at 4 p.m.

Expected at the opening rites are Raffy Villavicencio, chief executive officer of FilOil, and Ramon “Tats” Suzara, president of Philippine SuperLiga.

Co-hosting the event are Dumaguete City headed by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo; Province of Negros Oriental under Governor Roel Degamo; DepEd Dumaguete, and the Foundation University -Institute of Youth Sports for Peace.

Also supporting the event are Sonak Corporation, Nestle Philippines Inc., Island Merchants Corporation, Municipality of Valencia, Negros Occidental Volleyball Association, and Volleylife Sports.
