ILOILO CITY — Eight establishments in this city are under investigation for alleged violation of the product standards law of the Philippines.
The investigation is being conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB), a Manila-based composite team.
DTI-Iloilo Provincial Director Diosdado Cadena Jr. did not reveal the names of the erring establishments but said these are mostly dealers of construction materials.
He said these establishments were suspected of having violated the product standards law due to lack of product standards markings and license on the goods being sold.
Cadena said the FTEB has released summons to the establishments. “So they will submit their answer to the adjudication officer. After that, in 10 to 15 days, we will already know the judgment whether they are guilty or not for their alleged violation and also their penalties. But it is still subject for appeal or motion for reconsideration,” he added.
Cadena said the penalty would depend on the gravity of the offense.
Previously, seven establishments were penalized for violating the product standard law.
Cadena added that a forum would be conducted on Tuesday to brief the stakeholders on product standards law. It aims to update stakeholders on latest regulations passed by DTI. (PNA)
