Water Consciousness Month celebration starts

THE annual celebration of Davao City’s Water Consciousness Month, which is slated in November, begins early with Davao City Water District (DCWD) conducting its 17th Goes-to-School project.

The project was conducted at St. Jude Elementary School (ES) last September 15, 2017; Bolton ES on September 22, 2017; and R. Magsaysay ES on September 29, 2017.

Around 1,500 grades three to six students participated in the Goes-to-School project in which selected DCWD personnel served as teachers and storytellers to reinforce student’s knowledge about the water cycle and water distribution process, water access and sanitation, and water conservation tips.

The students shared their insights about the topics, worked on activity sheets, and wrote down simple ways how they can help protect the environment and conserve water. After the interactive learning sessions, they received drawstring knapsacks, notebooks, and bookmarks that are all DCWD-customized to bear environment protection messages and joined in the sticker brigade. The teachers also received IEC materials including posters on water conservation and water cycle.

On behalf of DCWD, general manager engineer Edwin Regalado thanked all the schools and their principals -- Luhrily Baladad of St. Jude ES; Alejandro Curay of Bolton ES; and Viola Esparagoza of R. Magsaysay ES for accommodating the Goes-to-School project.

Regalado also thanked the Department of Education Davao City Division headed by Dr. Maria Ines Asuncion for endorsing DCWD’s activities including the upcoming interschool contests for elementary and junior high school students in November for the Water Consciousness Month celebration.

Davao City Water District is the lead agency of the annual celebration of November as Water Consciousness Month in Davao City per Proclamation No. 12 issued on September 27, 2001 by former Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. (PR)
