Habagat officially over, says Pagasa

COOL weather is expected in the coming days, as the state weather bureau announced Thursday, October 12, that the southwest monsoon season, locally known as "Habagat," is officially over.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a press release that based on its recent climate analysis, there was a significant weakening of the southwest monsoon winds in the last few days.

"The strengthening of the high pressure systems over the Asian continent has led to the gradual changing of the season," it said.

With this, Pagasa said the country's climate "is on the process of transition and the gradual onset of the northeast monsoon season (Amihan) is expected in the coming days, with a reversal of the winds from southwest to northeast."

Cool morning temperature, rains and thunderstorms are common during Amihan as temperatures are expected to go down. (LMY/SunStar Philippines)
