Former Angeles City cops involved in robbery, extortion arrested

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Seven former police officers were arrested and placed under restrictive custody for their involvement in robbery-extortion of three Koreans in Angeles City in 2016.

Police Regional Office-Central Luzon Director Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus identified the seven ex-policemen as Police Officers 3 Arnold Nagayo, Roentjen Domingo, and Gomerson Evangelista; Police Officers 2 Richard King Agapito and Ruben Rodriguez; and Police Officers 1 Jayson Ibe and Mark Joseph Pineda, all from the Angeles City Police Office.

The ex-policemen were arrested by joint personnel of the Angeles City Public Safety Company and Criminal Investigation and Detection Team-Central Luzon on Tuesday, October 10 by virtue of Warrant of Arrest issued by Judge Irineo Pangilinan, Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 58, Angeles City for Kidnapping for Ransom with no bail recommended.

Their case stemmed from an incident report that showed the alleged robbery-extortion that transpired on December 30, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at Apo Street in Angeles City.

The victims, identified as Park Min Hoon and Lee Ki Hoon, said the police officers took their cash, bags, shoes, a gold ring and a speaker.

They were reportedly brought to the police station, where they were allegedly beaten by the police officers.

The victims claimed the police officers demanded cash, amounting to P310,000, in exchange for their liberty.

They said the suspects threatened to kill them if they failed to produce the amount.

The Korean nationals identified the suspects through the personal data sheets shown to them by the investigators on January 4.

Before their arrest, the ex-law enforcers were first dismissed from the Philippine National Police service September this year, said Corpus.

He said the suspects are now detained at the Angeles City District Jail in Camp Tomas Pepito in Barangay Sto. Domingo.
