XU grad crowned Miss Scuba Philippines 2017

CAGAYAN de Oro is eagerly anticipating the homecoming on October 23 of newly crowned Miss Scuba Philippines 2017 Sherlyn Legaspi Doloriel.

Provincial Information Officer Nicole Managbanag said the Xavier University (XU)-Ateneo de Cagayan alumna will be arriving in the city in the evening of October 22.

In the morning October 23, Managbanag said, Doloriel will be guesting in "Pamahaw Espesyal," a regional morning show of ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao.

Doloriel will then be fêted to a motorcade that will begin from the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol, passing Velez to Divisoria, passing XU to Cogon to Limketkai then back to the Provincial Capitol.

This, Managbanag said, will be followed by a press conference, radio station hopping and finally, a dinner with Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano and the Capitol’s department heads.

On October 24, Doloriel will be a special guest along with Emano in a radio program at Radio Ultra. The Miss Scuba Philippines, will then, go diving in Agutayan Island in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.

Doloriel, a 2017 Business Administration graduate of Xavier University, won the beauty title Tuesday, October 10, as a representative of Misamis Oriental.

“Lord, I thank you for this achievement, all glory to your name alone! You are my strength and my voice, for without you I am nothing! Ad majorem Dei gloriam!” the beauty queen said after the coronation night held at the Plaza Atrium of Resorts World Manila.

In her Facebook post, dated on October 12, Doloriel expressed the various emotions she has been feeling since winning the pageant.

"It's been two days since I was crowned as the new Miss Scuba Philippines 2017. It doesn't feel real yet and I am still in the cloud nine. This is indeed surreal. I'm in the middle of a wave of emotions, but in the afterglow of last Tuesday's memorable night, the indescribable feelings of joy, excitement and gratitude are the most ideal and evident," Doloriel said.

The beauty queen also expressed her thanks to several people who believed and supported her throughout her journey.

"To the Filipino people, I am now ready to conquer the stage of Miss Scuba International 2017 in November. With pride and honor, I will bring the name of our very own Philippines. To everyone, thank you so much and I love you all. Daghang Salamat and Mabuhay!!" Doloriel said.

Doloriel will be representing the country in the Miss Scuba International 2017 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on November 18.

While studying at XU, Doloriel managed to explore the sea through scuba diving, and eventually became a Professional Association of Diving Instructors-certified scuba diver.

“Her advocacy on promoting love and respect for the environment is very commendable,” Irene Guitarte, XU vice president for mission and ministry said in her memo on Thursday, October 12.

Guitarte also encouraged everyone to support Doloriel, adding that she is "definitely one beautiful woman with a heart for the environment."

Doloriel was also crowned Miss Cagayan de Oro 2016 and a finalist in the Miss Earth Philippines 2017.

Miss Scuba Philippines, according to its Facebook page, is a national search for the next Ocean Goddess who will represent the country for the 2017 Miss Scuba International in Malaysia.

"The pageant also aims to promote safe diving practices thorugh worldwide professional training organizations, and to elevate international tourism and cultural appreciation," it said.
