2 major routes in 2nd district to be affected by transport strike

PORAC -- Two major routes here will be affected by the upcoming transport strike on Monday and Tuesday by the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston).

This, as the Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (Joda) will be joining the transport strike along with the City of San Fernando Pampanga Joda.

The Porac-Guagua route will be part of the strike from October 16 to 17 while the Porac-Dinalupihan route will be part of the strike on October 16.

The transport strike for the Porac- Dinalupihan route will be for a whole day while the Porac-Guagua route will be for 24 hours.

The said routes cater to the passengers of the towns of Porac, Santa Rita, Floridablanca, Dinalupihan, Guagua and Angeles City.

Jeepney drivers and operators manning the Porac-Angeles route have yet to announce if they will join the transport strike.

Piston will hold another transport strike to reiterate their opposition to the plan to phase out jeepneys 15 years old and above.

Bong Meneses, spokesperson of Federation of Jeepney Drivers and Operators-San Fernando Chapter and “No to Jeepney Phase Out Coalition,” said that around 7,000 jeepney units plying Pampanga and nearby provinces will participate in the planned transport strike.

Meneses said that they are expecting at least 90 percent of the transport system in the province may be paralyzed due to the planned transport strike.

So far, only the City of San Fernando has declared cancellation of classes in anticipation of the transport strike.
