BACK when I was in the fourth grade, I got the rare chance of holding a camera. At that time, I was fumbling, not knowing what to do with it. I didn’t have an idea on what the words ‘aperture’ and ‘shutter speed’ mean, or even the simplest rule of taking a good photo.
I have no idea what I am doing. I was 10 years old.
When you are my age that time, the things that one would usually care about are Gameboys and Barbie dolls, deciding on what their favorite subject is, or perhaps on what games to play after the bell rings.
Not me.
At that exact moment, I knew I’d be bounded with my lenses. I knew I will see the things around me differently.
I knew I’d see beauty in the simplest of things. I knew I found my passion in photography.
At a young age, I have learned to appreciate the art of photography. I was amused on the different spectrum of colors and found comfort in aesthetics.
My great passion comes not in the pictures that I take but on seeing the good and beauty in everything. This passion developed me into who I am today as a person and as a person who captures the little details in life.
Holding that camera nine years ago is probably the best thing that happened to me. Because of that moment, I got the chance of capturing the happenings not just in my life but the lives of others as well. Because of that moment, I got to see through my lenses the joys, laughter, sadness, and all other emotions of humanity. Because of that moment, I have the chance to look at life in all variations.
Learning the ropes of this art, I was able to represent my school and my hometown to different competitions. In fact, I have been into a national photojournalism competiton. Who knew that that ten-year-old girl could get into a competition as big as a national schools’ press conference? For all I know, at that time, I want to convey stories.
Fast forward to my high school graduation, I remember crying. Not because I finally finished high school or I got to have my fair share of awards but because I am begging for my passion.
My love for photography brought me to the idea of taking AB Mass Communication. (Cyntelle Joanne Saguan)
