Market Watch: Prices of durian, pomelo down

PRICES of durian and pomelo may still decrease by the third or fourth week of October, said Bankerohan market vendors.

Current prices of durian are pegged at P50 to P60 per kilogram (kg), with varieties Kob and Chanee widely available even in side streets at only P50/kg to P55/kg while most of the Puyat varieties are sold at P60/kg.

According to Bankerohan vendors, this price may still decrease by about P5/kg at most by the end of October but that would be of the last supplies of the season. It was earlier reported that the prices of Kadayawan fruits for this year, including the durian and the pomelo are much expensive than last year. The bulk of harvests came a little late this year, according to the vendors which was supposed to have arrived around August but this year it came mid-September already.

As for pomelo, they are now being sold at P50/kg to P80/kg, depending on the brand, but is also expected to decrease in the coming weeks as is the price trend during the previous weeks. Pomelos are much more readily available than durian and will be available at a much cheaper price even until December.
