DISSEMINATION of information on taxes is a felt need for students as early as in their high school curriculum. When the BIR starts informing the public on what of their daily affairs, jobs, earnings are taxable, many citizens are ignorant of the ins and outs of the proper computations. The move to include Taxation as a required subject in high school is the solution. There had been many crimes committed in paying a person or corporation's dues. This results in a decrease in the government's revenues which could have been part of the government estimates in mapping out the budget for its different departments. The biggest news lately was the case of Lucio Tan and his concerns with Philippine Air Lines. The unpaid due taxes, a huge amount, if not paid will hamper the flights of PAL. The company agreed to pay the dues to the tune of billions to resume their business. There are numberless cases with smaller corporations under investigation. Ignorance of the law excuses no one.

On the side, the DepEd secretary declared that all employees will undergo mandatory drug test. This resulted from the negative reactions by parents that the employees must be tested too like the high school students. The test is made from the secretary to her 1,200 employees. The random drug test must be given to some 25,000students to be picked at random unannounced. This can be a preventive measure. It should be considered as a health issue rather than a police issue.
