THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that the unemployment rate for Davao Region increased to 4.7 percent (%) in July 2017 from 4.3% the same period last year.
Preliminary data from the Current Labor Statistics report showed that the region's labor force as of July 2017 was at 2.06 million, which is much lower than the 2.13 million labor force in the same period last year.
The region's employment rate was pegged at 95.3%, which is a slight decrease from the July 2016 figure of 95.7%. Underemployment in the region also increased to 17.6% from 15.9%.
Meanwhile for Mindanao, the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (Armm) recorded the highest employment rate at 96.8%, followed by Caraga (96.3%), Soccsksargen (96.1%), Zamboanga Peninsula (95.5%), Davao Region, and Northern Mindanao (94.3%).
In terms of unemployment rate, Armm had the lowest with 3.2%, followed by Caraga (3.7%), Soccsksargen (3.9%), Zamboanga Peninsula (4.5%), Davao Region, and Northern Mindanao (5.7%).
Caraga has the highest recorded underemployment rate in Mindanao with 27.1%, followed by Zamboanga Peninsula (20.8%), Soccsksargen (19%), Northern Mindanao (15.5%), Davao Region, and Armm (5.5%)
