Tacloban thanks Duterte

TACLOBAN City Mayor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for providing 10,734 houses to Yolanda survivors.

Yolanda hit Tacloban City on Nov. 8, 2013, killing thousands and leaving hundreds of families homeless.

“On behalf of the City of Tacloban, I am personally thanking you for the swift action on building the housing for Yolanda victims and relocation program,” said Romualdez in a letter to Duterte dated last Oct. 2.

She said that as of Sept. 30, 2017, the remaining 1,811 housing are under construction. From a total of 12,545 housing units, 10,734 units have been occupied.

“I would personally thank you for assigning Michael Dino of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Visayas for setting the tone and the pace of the rehabilitation efforts,” Romualdez said.

She said Dino was able to hurdle the bureaucratic red tape and to mobilize government agencies.

The mayor also thanked the Department of Public works and Highways (DPWH) headed by Secretary Mark Villar for providing for the water requirements of the relocation sites in cooperation with Leyte Metropolitan Water District. (EOB)
