THE alleged gunman responsible for the killing of a traffic law enforcer December last year was arrested by policemen along Yacapin-Capt. Vicente Roa Sts., Cagayan de Oro City, around 12 noon, Tuesday, October 17.
Police nabbed the suspect, 30-year-old Mohaimen Macauyag by virtue of an arrest warrant for the killing of a traffic team leader Cris Cabingas last year.
Cabingas was shot while overseeing the traffic situation in a busy Cogon Public Market, Friday night, December 30, 2016. Cabingas was brought to a hospital but died the following morning.
Police said the suspect lives in NHA Kauswagan but is a native of Mapandi, Marawi City.
After the incident, the suspect supposedly went into hiding in Bukidnon and in his hometown.
The alleged gun for hire suspect is using aliases such as Alex Masacal and Alex Macatana.
Chief Inspector Harvey Abellanosa, Police Station 2 chief, said information reached their office that the suspect, an alleged gun-for-hire, was sighted in the vicinity of Cogon Market.
The suspect supposedly has been contracted for another ‘hit’.
Abellanosa, former chief of the Detective Management Division (DMD) of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said they have been following the suspect in the areas of Bukidnon and Iligan City.
"Niabot nata og Manolo, Malaybalay, and Iligan until naa tay info nadawat nga naa siya diri and allegedly naa siyay another target unya naay nakakita nga naa siya sa Yacapin-Capt. Vicenter Roa maong ato siyang nadakpan,"Abellano said.
The suspect's supposed accomplice was able to evade arrest on board a motorcycle.
Intelligence operatives received reports that the next target of the suspect is likely another member of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) or a police officer.
Police charged the suspect early January and the arrest warrant was issued April 3, this year. The suspect has another arrest warrant issued last June 21, for murder with unintentional abortion.
"Duha ni kabuok iyang arrest warrant katong pagpatay sa iyang live-in sa Puerto," Abellanosa said.
Abellanosa said witnesses have already executed their affidavits pointing Macauyag as suspect of the Cabingas slay.
Authorities earlier ruled that the motive was work related.
Abellanosa said the suspect denied the allegations and alibied that he was at his house in Marawi City when Cabingas was killed.
The suspect was presented before City Mayor Oscar Moreno yesterday afternoon.
Lawyer Edgardo Uy, Task Force Hapsay Dalan chief, said justice has been finally served.
"I was confident the Cocpo did not sleep on its job. The Cabingas family can rest assured the long arm of the law will always be on the side of the law-abiding citizens," Uy said.
Uy, however, reminded his men that while the law is on their side, they should not “let their guards down."
