Soldiers seize 4 rifles from rebels

SOLDIERS belonging to the 26th Infantry Battalion (IB) recovered four high-powered firearms (HPFAs) after an encounter with suspected members of New People's Army (NPA) Saturday at Sitio Tagbulete, Barangay Del Monte in Veruela town of Agusan del Sur.

The Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) said in a statement that no casualty was reported on the military side, while no determined number of casualty for the rebels.

EastMinCom chief public information officer Captain Alberto Caber said that pursuit operations are ongoing as of presstime Sunday.

Lieutenant General Aurelio B. Baladad, commander of EastMinCom, lauded Major General Oscar T. Lactao of the 4th IB and his troops for their continuous security operations in the said area.

Baladad also reminded the troops to be always vigilant in their outreach programs especially in far-flung areas.

"We need to react faster than the bandits, we must protect the villagers especially the Indigenous People and lumads from any form of harassment and deception from the NPA," Baladad added.
