What is H-Water/Hydrogen Water?
ONE of the newest crazes in water has a lot of benefits. As a one-step process that has a wide array of benefits for all types of people, hydrogen-molecule “infused” water (also known as H-water—and is not actually infused but the hydrogen is separated in the water) is basically the “leveling-up” of drinking water (which is already an essential part of the everyday human function) without having any harmful or poisonous effects. Scientific studies show that H-water is rich with antioxidants and has multiple benefits for the body, including anti-inflammation, anti-allergy, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, anti-tumor, anti-cell death, increased regulation of the body’s own anti-oxidants, gene expression, cell modulation, nuero-protection, radio protection, DNA & RNA protection and cognitive function improvement.
How does it work and where do we get it?
Hydrogen water has anti-oxidant properties because the hydrogen molecules cling to oxygen-free radicals. And the way it does this is—well, water is H2O, right? The hydrogen machine separates an H (hydrogen molecule) from the OH so the freed up hydrogen will selectively look for the active oxygen in the body, cling to it, and turn it into water so one could release it through sweat or urination.
“Since hydrogen is really small, it has benefits even up to the brain—we can pretty much say your whole body can benefit from it,” explained Jessica Lagman, the manager and owner of Idrogen, a line of products/small machines that process regular water into H-Water.
“In my family, we’re all athletes so we grew up being health buffs,” said Lagman. “When we were kids, every morning we would have our juice. We were really into health to the point that we were not even allowed to drink soft drinks.”
Lagman shared how her family happened upon the product and how they decided to bring the machines to the Philippines.
“We were always looking for the next best thing to add to our health and that’s how we came across hydrogen water. We did our research—the products were from Japan and Korea, so we tested the product for ourselves first. Then, we realized that it was really a product that could help everyone—that’s the main reason we decided to bring Idrogen here to the Philippines.”
The first line of Idrogen products was launched in 2015, and included in the line were a tumbler, for people who want to bring the machine and its tumbler on the go; a generator/dispenser, a bigger machine for more commercial use in offices or homes; and a portable generator, a small and handy machine which can be used with any bottle of water. New editions of the machine, including a glass tumbler version, were launched this year. Idrogen is available in Rustan’s and some branches of SM Appliance. “I think the awareness for hydrogen products is spreading now. I feel like it was harder to explain before but now lots of beauty clinics have it. People understand it more and people can see the benefits clearer. In general, people are becoming more health conscious,” said Lagman.
