Simonian athletes, girl scouts get funds

SAN SIMON - Public school students from this town on Tuesday received monetary assistance from the local government to fund their respective organizations.

Mayor Leonora Wong led the turnover of funds to the members of the Girls Scout of the Philippines (GSP) and elementary students who will be representing their respective schools in the sectoral sports meeting.

Wong disclosed that the athletes received P67,200 which will cover the cost of jersey uniforms, food, transportation and other expenses during their games.

GSP members, meanwhile, received P88,500 for their uniforms, food and other expenses during the competition, she added.

Wong said that the turnover of funds is aimed at minimizing solicitation activities of teachers and students which only consumes their time and resources.

"Imagine iikot sila, parang namamalimos tapos bibigyan ng magkano. Mamamasahe pa at magmiryeda, so parang pumantay lang sila kaya naisipan na rin namin na mag-fund na from the government," she explained.

She added that the funds also aim to encourage more youth to participate in such social activities that will hone their social skills.

The students and teachers, for their part, expressed their gratitude to the local government for its continuous support to the education sector.

As sign of gratitude, the students composed poems and songs dedicated to Wong and the whole local government.
