Elderly ball highlights Sto. Tomas founding anniversary

STO. TOMAS - Elderly of all social status were given a night off over the weekend to receive recognition and honor for their significant contribution to society that helped in building a progressive Sto. Tomas.

The Senior Citizen's Ball participated in by thousands of elderly was organized by the local government here to highlight the 66th founding anniversary of Sto. Tomas.

Mayor Johnny Sambo said this year's celebration is dedicated to the elderly of Sto. Tomas who saw the town during its early years until now.

Tomas at tumulong para mapalaki ito ng maayos kaya pasasalamat ang handog natin sa kanila ngayong gabi," he said.

Sambo noted that all senior citizens in the town, both well-off and needy, received the recognition due to them.

He said that lady senior citizens received roses while the gentlemen got medals from Sambo and the Municipal Council led by Vice Mayor Gloria Ronquillo as a sign of gratitude.

Meanwhile, the night was capped off by a Rigodon de Honor, a traditional dance from the Philippines, participated in by some senior citizens led by their association president Benny Noriega.

Sambo said that the traditional dance originated in Sto. Tomas town and the senior citizens’ performance is one way of looking back to the town's roots.

Meanwhile, Noriega expressed his gratitude to the local government for spending its time and resources for the enjoyment of the senior citizens.

He said that such a program is greatly appreciated by his fellow elderly.
