San Fernando mayor named outstanding mechanical engineer

CITY of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago was recognized as the Outstanding Mechanical Engineer in the field of Government Service during the recently held 65th Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) National Convention awards night in Pasay City.

The Outstanding Mechanical Engineer (TOME) award is given annually to recognize mechanical engineers who excelled in their chosen field of endeavour thus distinguishing themselves in the practice of their profession towards the sustainable growth and development of society.

Santiago, a licensed mechanical engineer who graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology, has been an active member of the PSME since 1981.

Prior to his political career, he worked as a transportation manager at Coca-Cola Bottling Corporation and served as a professional consultant to various companies such as CGS Refrigeration and Air-Con and concept builder on land development and systems design and analysis of several real estate developers such as North Breeze Corporation, SANRRO, and KEMMP.

In his speech, Santiago thanked the esteemed organization for the valuable recognition and stressed that all his accomplishments serve as reflections of his trainings as a mechanical engineer.

“The two most important things I’ve learned that I now apply in fulfilling my duty as a public servant are focus and discipline. Iniiisip nila na kapag mechanical engineer ka, pang makina ka lang. Pero hindi, dahil kaya din namin manguna sa ibang larangan partikular sa pagseserbisyo sa ating bayan,” Santiago added.

Other recipients of the TOME award in the different fields were Engr. Ronel Baes (Contracting), Engr. Roberto Sala and Engr. Charlito Conesares (Education), Engr. Andresito Desilla (Government Service), Engr. Mark Ryan Sta. Maria (Entrepreneurship), Engr. Neil Reguine (Community Service), Engr. Henry Cabansag (Management), Engr. Arnold Depasucut (Manufacturing), Engr. Edgardo Bacolio (Cement Manufacturing), Engr. Eric Gayares (Consultancy) and Engr. Richard De Leo (Research, Innovation & Invention).

Special awards and recognitions were also given to fellow members and chapters of the PSME, both local and abroad, for their eminent role in observing high ethical practice as Mechanical Engineers. (PR)
