Surban: Off to see the world

AFTER his stint in the 2015 UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Selva Val Gardena, Italy last Saturday, the Cebuano ace MTB rider Niño Surban will head to Switzerland for the UCI MTB World Cup- XCO slated on July 4 to 5 in Lenzerheide City.

Surban completed the 87-kilometer mountainous course with 4,700-meter altitude of the World Championships in six hours, 12 minutes and 25 seconds and was in 118th place out of 123 finishers. There were 17 riders, including the reigning champion Jaroslav Kulhavy of Czech Republic, who did not finish the race.

Australia's Alban Lakata claimed the men's World Championships crown in 4:24:46. he was followed by Switzerland's Christoph Sauser two minutes and seven seconds later.

Colombian Hector Leonardo Paez Leon finished at third in 4:27:01.

“The route was hard for me since I'm not used to high altitude and cold weather. Sakit ang rota ug ang race pero I had a lot of fun,” Surban told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

“Next week, I'll be racing in the XCO World Cup. Maayo unta dili ko ma overlap sa XCO kay kusog kaayo sila niya dasok ug ilog sa single track.”

The World Championships was joined by 50 countries with around 200 top elite riders racing in the men's division.
