Lakbay Ligtas project relaunched in Davao City

PETRON Corporation has partnered with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the relaunching of PNP-Petron Lakbay Ligtas Project on Thursday, October 19, at the Living Faith Gas Station Incorporated, Julian Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, Maa, Davao City designed to increase police visibility as part of the crime prevention measure.

The project is the first partnership between the PNP and Petron Company wherein, a police presence point will be installed in strategic areas in identified Petron Service Stations nationwide.

Petron Public Affairs assistant vice president Charmaine Canillas said they wanted to support the government's thrust through the community support program in keeping the country safe from criminal elements.

Last year, they chose Davao City as one of the 20 pilot areas to relaunch the program considering the developments in the city and the prevailing peace, thus, they wanted to contribute in sustaining it.

With the success of the pilot program, they target to roll it out to additional 300 Petron stations.

"It was met with positive feedback from our dealers and customers. This strengthens our resolve to bring our shared advocacy of safety and security to more communities in close coordination with the PNP," she said.

In Davao Region, they eyed to establish a total of 55 dedicated police outposts, 18 of which will be in Davao City.

The police outpost will be an avenue for the public to have easier access where the public could raise concerns, air complaints and report crime incidents as there would be designated police officer who will man the stall.

PNP chief Ronaldo dela Rosa, who graced the activity, thanked Petron for the project that will help them to immediately address concerns of the citizen, respond to emergencies, attend complaints and distribute to crime prevention leaflets.

"This partnership with you has boosted our morale in the PNP for the support you have manifested through which I am looking forward to see positive impact on our crime prevention efforts as we work hand-in-hand with our stakeholders," he said.

He also told the police officers to always man the area to accommodate the reports of the public and it will "serve as an extension of police stations."

The police outpost will also serve as drop-off point during calamities and standby areas for patrolling of policemen.
