Former soldier killed in ops

A FORMER soldier tagged as a high-value drug personality was killed in an operation by the Philippine Drug and Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Tagum City Police last Wednesday afternoon, October 18.

Roel Sahiron, a former military officer, was killed on Thursday, October 19, after the search warrant for violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 issued by Judge Arlene Palabrica of Regional Trial Court 31, of Tagum City was enforced by authorities.

PDEA-Davao officer-in-charge Naravy Duquiatan, in an interview on Thursday, October 19, said that Sahiron was a former member of the Philippine Army and he was also considered as high-value personality.

She added that Sahiron had pending R.A. 9165 violation and robbery cases in Trento, Agusan del Sur.

She added that the operation, which took place around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday at Block 15, Lot 3, Camelia Homes, Barangay Visayan Village, Tagum City, also led to the arrest of Marila Shalika February, also known as "Madam," female, 39 years old.

Duquiatan added that recovered from "Madam" were three grams of suspected shabu with a value of P6,000 and pseudoephedrine, a controlled drug for asthma worth P28,000.

Duquiatan said that confiscated pseudoephedrine tablets can only be sourced abroad since only liquid form of the drug is available in the Philippines.

Assorted drug paraphernalia and firearms, caliber 22 pistol, caliber 38 revolver and several ammunitions were also confiscated from the arrested suspect.
