Angelicum makes V-League surprise

REINFORCED by top players from the Pilgrim Christian College, Angelicum Learning Center has established itself as a contender in the Shakey’s V-League.

The Angelicum wards of former Pilgrim coach Bong Rameri duplicated the sweeping finish of host St. Mary’s School Fiat and Xavier University High School to advance to the semifinal round of the inter-school 17-under volleyball tournament’s pre-qualifying leg in Cagayan de Oro.

Reinforced by former PCC reliables Angel Jalon, En-en Dacer and the Eslapor sisters Eureka and Jenesa, Angelicum defeated Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS), 2-0 in Sunday’s quarterfinals.

Top favorites St. Mary’s and Xavier also posted victories, even as darkhorse Merry Child School blanked Bulua National High School to also advance.

Drawing from the inspired play of Erika Raagas, Kiara Cruz, Kaye Navarro and guest player Abbe San Juan, SMS Fiat trounced Capitol University Basic Education Department (Cubed). While the Lady Crusaders banked on the troika of Ranielle Rosales and the Raagas siblings Rhea and Shobe to edge the hard-fighting Oro Christian Grace School, also in sets.

“The Shakey’s V-League becomes more exciting and interesting with the inclusion of Angelicum Learning Center in the big four round. Expect the unexpected,” said Bulua Grade School coach Irvin Pabilona.
