SLOTS to the national finals will be up for grabs when the biggest, grandest and most prestigious running event in the country will hold its 41st National Milo Marathon Davao leg on Sunday in an out-and-back course from SM Lanang Premier. Registration ends Saturday.

Davao race organizer Kenneth Sai, president of Vantage Sports Promotions, bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex of SM City Davao yesterday.

"The runners are not after the cash prizes but to qualify," Sai said who was accompanied by Milo executive Kirk Mojica.

Runners may also join the 3K and 5K categories.

Top bets from Cebu City and Bukidnon City, according to Sai, are entered t give Davao City's rated female entries Judelyn Miranda and Olive Firmeza a stiff competition.

Last year's 21K men's champion Sonny Wagdos is not around to the defend the title as he is already based in Luzon as an enlisted Philippine Air Force personnel.

Mojica, meanwhile, said they expect some 10,000 participants but hopes to exceed the target, thus, they extended the deadline of registration until tomorrow.

He also said a cheerleading competition for college, High School and elementary divisions will spice up the annual qualifying run.

Registration fees are P100 (students 3K/5K), P150 (adults 3K/5K), P750 (10K) and P850 (21K) inclusive of a singlet and race bib.

The 21K champions will each take home P10,000 and a trophy while the 10K titlists will pocket P5,000 each with medals. The rest of the top 10 finishers in both 21K and 10K will also claim prizes along with the 5K and 3K top finishers.
