Federalism in focus

THERE is no better way to understand federalism than through a healthy and interactive discussion.

In its efforts to help the government in creating awareness and letting the community understand deeper what is Federalism, the University of Mindanao - Professional Schools held last Saturday, October 14, a colloquium about the proposed form of government as pushed by the present administration led by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The colloquium, which was held at Professional schools Lobby, Matina Campus, Davao City has involved over 200 faculty and students of different programs, the barangay functionaries and some community members of the adopted barangays of the participating programs and industry partners.

Federalism advocates, Dr. Adrian Tamayo and Arch. ChitoGavino, who are both knowledgeable on the topic as they already shared federalism talks in the national and local arena were invited as the resource speakers.

UM Professional Schools Community Extension Coordinator Gerlieta S. Ruiz said that the ultimate objective of the event is to "encourage discourse on federalism among students and faculty to produce informed comments and concepts."

"To create an environment of positive engagement to develop expertise on the concept," she added.

Also, she shared that it is also to contextualize the federalism process in public administration, business administration and economics, popular education and structural growth complementation.

The event is a project of UM-Professional Schools as one of the requirements for the reaccreditation of their programs under the supervision of Dean Eugenio S. Guhao Jr., D.M.
