THE dismissal of Budget Undersecretary Gertrudo de Leon was a result of President Rodrigo Duterte's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, Malacañang said on Friday.
Speaking to Palace reporters, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said De Leon's removal from his post proved that there are no "sacred cows" in the Duterte administration.
Duterte revealed Thursday that he sacked a male official from the Budget department over his alleged involvement in corruption.
Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno told Sun.Star that Duterte ordered the dismissal of De Leon.
Abella said Duterte's latest move should serve as a reminder to public servants that they should fulfill their mandate with integrity.
"The President's action highlights that no government official is sacred under this administration," the presidential spokesman said.
"Let this be a reminder to all public officers that we are all here not for ourselves but for the greater good of the nation," he added.
