DTI: Noche buena item prices stable

COMPETITION among manufacturers of noche buena goods may result in no price movements this December, said the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

In a statement, DTI assured stable prices and supply, specifically for pasta, pasta sauce, bread, ham, cheese, and canned tuna for Christmas.

However, it noted that some types or brands of bread have increased prices this month, hovering at P1 increase per serving.

The trade agency said it has discussed with traders and suppliers of these goods amid the expected spike in demand towards the end of the year.

“There is enough supply and stable prices of consumer goods in the market brought by competition that gives consumers many choices,” said Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez in the same statement.

Lopez said brands are expected to offer promos, bundles, and affordable deals of their products as Christmas approaches to encourage consumers to buy.

To guide consumers of the suggested retail prices of the basic and prime commodities, DTI encouraged them to check the agency’s Online Price Monitoring System (OPMS) or E-Presyo.

“With the E-Presyo, consumers can now compare prices and see the establishments that offer the lowest prices of basic goods and commodities, thereby, giving them choices on managing their budget wisely,” said DTI.

E-Presyo can be accessed through a mobile application that is available for download or by logging on to www.e-presyo.dti.gov.ph.

Earlier, DTI 7 Director Asteria Caberte said a looming price increase for “high-import content” products may take effect this December, with the weakening of the Philippine currency against the US dollar.
