TEN outstanding senior citizens were awarded yesterday during the Mindanao-wide Senior Citizen's Month celebration held at Almendras Gym, Davao City.
Awarded were Lourdes dela Llana Pimentel, mother of Koko Pimental hailing from Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental; Dionesia Pacquiao, mother of Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao; Eleonor Duterte, sister of President Rodrigo Duterte; Albina Sarona of Davao City; Rogelio Puig of Compostela Valley Province; Conchita Guerrero Marcelo of Sultan Kudarat, Region 12; Frank Gutang of General Santos City; Alfredo Amores of Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) and Emmanuel C. Go, commander of the 3rd district Veteran Federation of the Philippines.
Event organizer Emily Mendoza of the Davao City Social Services and Development Office said that the Department of Social Welfare and Development has provided the criteria for the selection of outstanding senior citizens.
Aside from the awarding, the mass oath taking of senior citizens federation chapter presidents in Region 11 and 12 were also inducted by Francisco G. Datol and Milagros H. Magsaysay, representatives of senior citizens in the congress.
Among the guests were DSWD undersecretary Luzviminda Ilagan and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Mendoza also said the Ederlympics set in December will be another much-awaited event for senior citizens in Davao City.
