Agri department awards 15 regional Gawad Saka winners

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Fifteen awardees were feted in the annual Agriculture Gawad Saka search for outstanding achievers in agriculture and fisheries by the Department of Agriculture (DA) at the Laus Group Event Centre over the weekend.

The Gawad Saka is an annual contest to recognize farmers, fisherfolks, and livestock raisers as well as groups who have excelled and made significant contributions in enhancing the development of the agriculture and fishery sector in their respective communities and in the country.

This year’s awardees include Outstanding Coconut Farmer Victoriano Farro, Outstanding Small Animal Raiser Alex Diaz, Outstanding BFT Tuyo Barangay Food Terminal, Outstanding Rice Farmer Nemencio Concepcion, Outstanding High Value Crop farmer Edwin Mag-isa, and Outstanding Organic Farmer Norhaya Demacaling who were awardees from Aurora, Bataan and Bulacan respectively.

Awardees from Nueva Ecija include Outstanding Small Farmers Talabutab Norte PMPC, Outstanding Rural Improvement Club Pag-Asa RIC and Outstanding Farmer Family Mr and Mrs. Ernesto Perlas and family.

The lone awardee from Pampanga is Dr. Richard Torno from Guagua town who was awarded as Outstanding Sugarcane Farmer.

Meanwhile, the Outstanding Corn Farmer Award went to Cesario Tabago of Tarlac province.

Other awardees include Outstanding Agricultural Scientist Dr. Marissa Romero, Outstanding Agricultural Research Arthur Dayrit and Outstanding Rural Woman Josephine Perlas.
