Storm surge hits Sibugay coastal village

SOME P3 million worth of properties were destroyed in a storm surge that struck a coastal village in Zamboanga Sibugay province, the police reported Saturday.

The Zamboanga Sibugay police said the incident happened around 9 p.m. Thursday in the coastal village of Taytay Manubo, Naga town.

The police said that 19 houses mostly made of light materials, 31 fish dryers and three seaweed dryers were destroyed during the storm surge spawned by inclement weather condition.

But the police said that there was not casualty during the incident wherein the estimated cost of damaged is pegged at P3 million.

The Naga Municipal Risk Reduction Management Office has advised the shoreline and riverbank dwellers to be vigilant of any natural calamity brought about by inclement weather condition.

Zamboanga Peninsula had been experiencing inclement weather condition the past days due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and with the entry of Typhoon Paolo into the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
