BIR seizes imported liquor without tax stamps

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 has seized some 300 cases of imported liquor for lack of tax stamps.

BIR regional director Jethro Sabariaga told SunStar Pampanga that the items were found in a JAS Phil Trade Inc. warehouse in Barangay Pulong Maragul in Angeles City.

These should have had tax stamps worth P1.8 million. BIR and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents, armed with a mission order, discovered the items.

The warehouse owner may face civil and criminal charges. The owner also needs to pay three times the amount of the tax due.

Sabariaga said they were intensifying their crackdown on the sale of goods without appropriate tax stamps, particularly cigarettes and other goods subject to excise tax.

Sabariaga urged consumers to report stalls and suppliers who are distributing goods like imported liquor and cigarettes without the appropriate tax stamps.
