Village watchman shot dead in Ermita

A VILLAGE watchman of Barangay Ermita, Cebu City was shot dead past 8 p.m. Sunday, October 22, by an unidentified gunman.

Senior Police Officer 1 Winston Ybañez, homicide investigator, identified the fatality as Roberto Flores Gala, 48.

Gala was sitting on his motorcycle parked in Ermita when the assailant came and shot him twice in the head.

The slug entered in the left jaw of the victim and tore through his face and exited at the right side.

Investigation showed the victim had a conflict a few days before the attack. The person may have something to do with the murder.

Gala was active in arresting rogue personalities in the village.

Two empty shells of .45 pistol were recovered in the crime scene.

Gala was not the first tanod who figured in a crime.

Past 12 a.m. last October 10, Tuesday, Gala's fellow Ermita tanod Junnel Sanchez shot thief suspect Lendon Abadinas dead while the latter was in handcuffs.

Sanchez surrendered and was charged with murder. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
