City councilor recommends removal of flyover

City Councilor Plaridel Nava has reiterated his recommendation to remove the Jalandoni flyover fronting the University of San Agustin along General Luna Street as one crucial move to help decongest traffic in Iloilo City.

Nava, chairman of the committee on transportation, said he had proposed that the said flyover be removed and relocated to other areas of concern, like busy intersections.

The councilor’s criticism of the structure is backed by the result of the first multi-sectoral transport summit conducted in February 11, 2015 which suggested the removal of the flyover.

The Jalandoni flyover was built on 2008 under the administration of Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Nava said that the Jalandoni flyover is a main source of congestion because it is rarely used and the vehicles passing through the structure interlock with the opposite vehicles, creating a bottleneck at the foot of the flyover.

The councilor added that the project has been installed without a scientific study and with no definite purpose.(LCP/Sunnex)
