PROVIDING better health services is high on the agenda of the Provincial Capitol for next year.
Gov. Hilario Davide III said that P1.6 billion was set aside for hospitals and health programs under the Provincial Government’s proposed P4.5-billion 2018 budget.
“Every year, our budget for hospitals increases. We will improve hospital services by constructing facilities and hiring more doctors and other medical personnel. That will entail a lot of cost,” he said.
“Most of the doctors are on contracts of service. There are also regular and casual employees. So we have several employees in district hospitals and provincial hospitals,” he said.
Davide said the Province has 3,418 employees, 1,510 of whom are in the executive department and 338 are in the legislative department, and 1,570 are contractual employees.
As part of providing better health services, Davide said there are constructions of new hospital buildings in Argao and Malabuyoc.
“We have to buy new medical equipment for district hospitals and provincial hospitals because it is our dream that they can treat all patients without bringing them to Cebu City,” he said.
Davide also said that they will improve the Danao City Provincial Hospital, which is serving the people in northern Cebu, and Carcar Provincial Hospital in southern Cebu. (EOB)
